NHS Blood Pressure checks

What is the NHS Blood Pressure Check Service?

Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a common condition that often goes unnoticed. The NHS Blood Pressure Check service is designed to detect high blood pressure levels and provide guidance on healthy habits and lifestyle changes to help lower them.

Who is eligible?

This service is available to:

  • Individuals aged 40 and over

  • Those who have not been diagnosed with hypertension or a related health condition

  • Individuals under 40 with a family history of hypertension

If your blood pressure reading is high, you will be offered an Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) check. A member of staff will fit you with an ABPM device to take home, which will record additional readings over an extended period to assess if further action is required.

During your private consultation, when the ABPM device is fitted, the staff member will schedule a return visit for you to discuss the results and return the device. Based on your results, further action may be recommended, and if necessary, a follow-up appointment with your GP will be arranged.

No need for appointment, just pop in.
